We played the front 9 this week. Had a great round for a nice change. Ended up in a tie for 2nd with my brother. Shot a 41.
Hole 1 is an average dogleg left over a valley. Hit a nice tee shot in the fairway. 2nd shot was a bit short, but I was able to get up and down with a nice wedge shot and a tap in for par.
Hole 2 is a straight and short par 4. Hit the tee shot well but way left. Played the hole from #3. I was able to get back into play and save a bogie with a decent chip and 2 putts.Hole 3 was a similar start. Straight hole up a hill. Drove it well but left. Not quite sure what came over me, maybe it was a sip of the birdie juice before I took my shot, but I hit a pitching wedge from about 100 yards out to 8 inches for the birdie. Those don't come often in my game so you have to enjoy them.
Hole 4 is a fun downhill par 4. Bombed a driver down the middle (also doesn't happen often for me). Nice chip shot and a simple 2 putt for par.
Hole 5 is a difficult par 3. Danger left and right and very narrow. Ended up left on the top of the hill. I was able to get close to the green on my 2nd shot and get up and down for bogie.
Hole 6 is another difficult par 3. Narrow in the middle of the woods. Hit a nice tee shot just off the green, 2 putts for bogie.
Hole 7 is usually my downfall. Longer par 5 with a river in the middle. Had a great drive in the fairway, and nice 2nd shot to put me about 100 yards away for my approach. With hole 3 on my mind, took a swig of my white claw, pulled out my pitching wedge, and gave it a wack. It looked good but I can't see the green from below. My brother on the next hole tee box yells "heck yes bro." I am about 10 feet for birdie. Very difficult putt. Sliding left to right about 3 feet. Lined it up, gave it a tap, and it just barely drops in the cup. 2 birdies in 7 holes and I'm 1 over par. What is happening?
As they say all good things must come to an end. Hole 8 was my blunder. Another par 5. Great tee shot in the middle. Decided to lay up on my 2nd shot because the green is very tight. Shanked my 9 iron right into the woods. Ended up punching out, then hitting the greenside bunker. Finally get to the green and I 2 putt for an 8. That one hurt.
Hole 9 is a basic par 4 but you can't go left. Hit another good tee shot in the fairway. Approach was just a bit long and ended up chipping on and 2 putting for bogie.
All in all, that is a great round for me at my skill level. Had a blast this week. I'll be back next week with the dreaded back 9.
It's been an up and down season so far. Ill post a video of my current swing below. Let me know what you think I can improve on.
